A Brief Analysis of Eight Etiquette Principles to Follow When Wearing a Suit
1. The top and bottom of a suit should be the same color. When matching, two of the suit, shirt, and tie should be solid colors.
2. Suits must be worn with leather shoes; sneakers, canvas shoes, and hiking shoes are inappropriate.
3. The color of the shirt worn with a suit should coordinate with the suit, but not be the same color. A white shirt looks good with suits of various colors. In formal settings, men should avoid brightly colored plaid or patterned shirts. The shirt cuffs should extend 1-2 centimeters beyond the suit cuffs. A tie is required for formal occasions when wearing a suit; it is not always necessary for other occasions. When wearing a tie, the shirt collar buttons must be fastened; when not wearing a tie, the shirt collar buttons should be undone.
4. Suits have single-breasted and double-breasted options, and there are rules for buttoning: Double-breasted suits should have all buttons fastened. Single-breasted suits: One-button suits look formal when buttoned and stylish when unbuttoned; two-button suits look fashionable and traditional when only the top button is fastened, stylish and trendy when only the bottom button is fastened, and unfashionable when both are fastened; unbuttoned, they look stylish and handsome. Buttoning both or only the second button is not standard; three-button suits should have the top two buttons fastened or only the middle button fastened to meet the standard.
5. Suit pockets (both jacket and trousers) should not be overloaded. Don't wear too many undergarments under a suit; in spring and autumn, one shirt is best; in winter, don't wear a cotton undershirt under the shirt; a sweater can be worn over the shirt. Overdressing will ruin the overall lines of the suit.
6. The color and pattern of the tie should coordinate with the suit. When wearing a tie, its length should reach the belt buckle, and the tie clip should be worn between the fourth and fifth shirt buttons.
7. The brand label on the suit cuffs should be removed; otherwise, it is not in accordance with suit-wearing standards and will be considered unrefined in elegant settings.
8. Pay attention to suit maintenance. The method of maintenance and storage greatly affects the shape and lifespan of the suit. High-end suits should be hung in a well-ventilated place and aired frequently, paying attention to pest and moisture prevention. If there are wrinkles, they can be hung in a bathroom after a shower to use the steam to smooth out the wrinkles, then hung in a well-ventilated place.
